IF THE ATHLETIC FOOTWEAR FITS…

One thing that sports has taught me is that no matter what you play, there are characteristics that you learn from the journey. Some of them being hard work, discipline, perseverance, trust, and teamwork. As I watched my son play hockey, a sport he absolutely loves, there was a play in which a teammate and a member of the other team got into a good battle in the corner. Both kids took it too far and this lead to roughing on both players’ part. The ref got the call right and that is where it should have ended. The parent of the opposing team proceeded to call our player a vulgar name and did not realize that her parents were sitting right next to him. A definite unfortunate situation for sure. What we have to realize is that if we do not set the example off the field, court, ice, etc…, then we undo what we want sports to teach our kids. It’s just a youth sports game and should be treated as such. The games belong to the kids, not us. If you cannot keep the inappropriate comments to yourself, then stay home.
